OSgrid will wipe everything. Your world can go on.
OSgrid will go offline at midnight on Dec 31, 2026 and all assets (clothes, objects, textures, builds) will be wiped. According to OSgrid's treasurer, the grid should come back in 2027: accounts (avatar names) will be kept, but inventories will not; regions running on home computers will no longer be allowed to connect (only approved hosting companies) and the US$ 1 fee per extra region stays. Save what is yours by Dec 30. Read the official announcement
What OSgrid announced, in order
Sep 28, 2026: per-region fees. The first region (up to 512×512) would stay free; each extra region would cost US$ 1 per month (a region larger than 512×512 also US$ 1), paid via PayPal, with one free transition month. Regions would still run on the resident's own computer or server. Sep 28 announcement
Oct 12, 2026: shutdown. OSgrid announced it will shut down at midnight on Dec 31, 2026, closed new registrations and said earlier plans were canceled. Oct 12 announcement
Oct 18 and 20, 2026: back in 2027, no home regions. At the Oct 18 meeting and to Hypergrid Business, OSgrid's treasurer said the grid goes offline on Dec 31, wipes its assets and comes back in 2027 on the cloud (Amazon S3). Accounts survive, inventories do not. Home-hosted regions will no longer be allowed to connect, only approved hosting companies; anyone who wants a region should rent a server. The US$ 1 fee per extra region stays. He asked everyone to save inventories and regions by Dec 30. Hypergrid Business article
Plans may change again: always check OSgrid's official announcements.
1. Save your inventory (IAR)
In a region connected to OSgrid (yours or a friend's), type in the console:
save iar Nome Sobrenome / SuaSenha meu-inventario.iar
Large inventories take hours: leave the window open and don't click inside it.
2. Save your region (OAR)
In your region console, type:
save oar minha-ilha.oar
Keep the files in more than one place: they are your backup.
3. Your IAR is welcome, and checked
According to OSgrid itself, the grid was harmed by IARs full of junk data. Besides that, some objects freeze the loading on any OpenSim server: we have seen an alpha HUD with more than 200 parts and a 205-part necklace stop the server mid-load. Those are just two examples; there are many similar ones. That is why we check every IAR and set aside only what freezes.
Does your IAR freeze? We clean it.
If your inventory has objects that freeze OpenSim, it is not lost: our team sets aside only those objects and loads everything else into your VLB Free account. Have an IAR that froze somewhere else, or one you suspect? Send it through the Bring my inventory page or write to contato@vlbfree.com. Bring my inventory
